You won’t want to miss INK AND CLAY 44 if you’re going to be in the SoCal area between August 22 and November 21, 2019. Ink & Clay is an annual competition, featuring a variety of mixed media works utilizing any form of “ink” and/or “clay,” including prints, drawings, ceramics, clay sculptures, and more. This event, founded in 1971, is sponsored by the W. Keith and Janet Kellogg University Art Gallery of California State Polytechnic University in Pomona, CA, and is supported financially by Col. James “Jim” H. Jones and the Office of the University President.
Sujac Studios is particularly proud of one among our own network of artists, Jim Zver, whose collage, Hallucinations #15, is one of the featured artworks in Ink & Clay 44. This piece was finished in May 2019, and this will be its first exhibit outside Jim’s own studio.
This work is part of Jim’s Hallucinations Series, 2019, an ongoing series that draws heavily from a suite of drawings Jim completed during a 3-month visit to Madrid. The Spanish works feature a dreamlike quality, leading a friend to call them “hallucinations,” which is “Alucinaciones” in Spanish. This fitting title naturally stuck, and the English translation was a natural fit for the works birthed of those exercises when Jim returned home to Los Angeles.
Jim’s work has been featured three times in previous Ink & Clay competitions.
Since 2012, Ink & Clay has been an open competition and exhibition open to artists across the United States. Now officially a “national” competition, it is hailed as one of the most diverse art exhibitions in the country.
Ink & Clay 44 runs from August 22 to November 21, 2019, with an opening reception on Saturday, September 7, from 2 pm to 5 pm. Details are as follows:
